A NEW countryside event in Worcestershire aimed at children attracted more than 2,000 visitors.

Organisers of CountryTastic hailed the event a huge success, and said they would "certainly" be doing it again.

Spokesman Sharon Gilbert said: "It was absolutely brilliant. We had wonderful weather and had school parties from Gloucestershire and hundreds of other children who came with parents and grandparents. We sold about 1,200 tickets in advance, and had about another 1,000 come on the day."

The one-day event, held yesterday, was closely aligned to the Government-led Year of Food and Farming campaign, an initiative which is helping to bridge the gap between schools and agriculture and reconnect children and parents with their environment and the food they eat.

Attractions included cookery demonstrations, sausage making, pottery workshops, egg decorating, seed planting and milking. There was also the chance to make barley bread, chutnies and jam, groom donkeys and ride on a shire horse.
