Pan's People's Babs is still Top of the Pops
CHARITABLE: Babs Powell, right, with the WI's Chris Marriott (13717801)
CHARITABLE: Babs Powell, right, with the WI's Chris Marriott (13717801)

A FORMER Pan's People dancer was at Malvern Theatres to give a special talk at the Worcestershire WI annual meeting.

Barbara Powell, known as Babs, spoke at the convention yesterday about her career as a dancer and her charity work.

Babs, who appeared on Top of The Pops, has since taken part in numerous charity events which include sailing around the world for the Global Yacht Challenge and treks in Nepal and Peru. Most of her work is in aid of Lord Taverners and Breast Cancer Research, but she is planning another trek to the geographical North Pole next week for the Polar Extreme Foundation.

Babs, who is married to Holby City actor Robert Powell, said: "It is a great thrill to be invited here to talk about my adventures and have the support of the WI."

Chris Marriott, federation chairman, said: "The WI is a place for women to go and raise money for charities.

"We try to help in the community as much as possible and want to continue the good work."
