THE Worcester warehouse gutted by fire has begun to collapse.

The walls of the B Smith Packaging factory, Stanier Road, off Cotswold Way, Warndon, have now buckled. Up to 100 firefighters tackled the huge blaze which took hold just before 10am this morning.

Nobody was injured and factory workers escaped just in time.

Relief crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service are now at the scene to relieve the officers who responded to the initial call.

Sirs,
The Fire on 2nd April 2008, is yet another reason why companies should install automatic fire sprinkler systems to their premises to protect - jobs, supply chains, lives, the enviroment( CO2 emmissions in the fire, and the rebuild products) and insurance costs to rebuild. The statistics are readily avaliable for all to see what fire does in wrecking businessess and livelihoods for Worcester people. Sooner or later we will follow other European countries and install such systems when buildings are built or refurbished as standard.
Let alone look at the risk the fire servicemen were put at tackling the blaze. Local Planners and fire authorities need to start insisting on such systems surely? Visit www.bafsa.co.uk for details of such systems.
