TRAVELLERS will keep using a plot of land and causing a nuisance to nearby residents, according to a councillor.

Alan Fisher, Wychavon District Councillor, believes people living in Martin Hussingtree and Fernhill Heath have not seen the last of groups of travellers who keep pitching up on land at Sandway on the A38.

He said: "What tends to happen is one lot goes and they contact another group and they come in.

"These people have a right to live somewhere but my argument is we all have that right but we all pay and contribute to the local economy and they don't contribute one iota."

The latest group of travellers left the site on Monday, six days after they arrived with caravans.

It is thought the land has been used by travellers as many as eight times in a year prompting discussions by North Claines Parish Council members about the possibility of digging a ditch around the plot preventing access.

Worcestershire County Council officers and West Mercia Constabulary visited the site, but didn't take action to remove them as they were assured all the vehicles would be leaving over the weekend.

Why, Why, Why are they allowed to do this? They are trespassing and if we trespassed we would soon be moved or fined.

The West Mercia Constabulary will always say that they have the means and authority to prevent this happening in OUR county but they await the request from OUR County Council to instigate proceedings, a request which never comes! But they use their initiative when it comes to the easy pickings eg the motorists ,and the offender is soon dealt with. The Council have recently employed more traffic officers to issue fines to anyone overstaying the 45 minutes parking allowed in most of the city but I bet travellers overstaying time limits at Pitchcroft were never penalised! One rule for us another for them -get used to it!

It seems to me that the Police and the Council are quickly losing the goodwill of their customers!!!
