A NEW MP was welcomed to RGS The Grange and grilled by the school's pupils.

Nigel Huddleston, MP for Mid-Worcestershire, was invited to share his manifesto ideas with pupils and then discuss what it is like to be an MP.

During May’s General Election week, pupils from Year Six held their own mock elections and presented manifestos to the whole school who were then able to vote.

Their topics included obesity, schools and education, health and leisure, building and pollution, NHS and the care for the elderly, the housing crisis and humanitarian crises around the world.

During the question time, the children asked some probing questions including how Mr Huddlestone became Mr Cameron’s best friend, what UKIP would do if Great Britain left Europe and whether exams should be abolished.

Headmaster Gareth Hughes said: "In our recent fantastic ISI report it was identified the pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is excellent.

"They show a sophisticated ability to reflect on themes and this was certainly evident during this process."

Mr Huddleston said he was impressed by the way the pupils presented themselves with insightful questions and good manners.
