HEART of Worcestershire College shone a light on its outstanding students as it hosted its annual further education awards.

For students at Worcester, the event took place at the city's Guildhall and this year’s theme was Technology; in light of the college’s recent success in being awarded the Jisc award for the Effective Use of Technology in Further Education and the TES award for Outstanding Use of Technology in Further Education.

The evening saw the College award more than 60 students, from the Worcester campus, various titles including Outstanding Achievement, Most Improved and Will to Succeed, in their respective areas, as well as the announcement of FE Student of the Year, which was awarded to Kerry Simons who successfully completed the Prince’s Trust Programme at the college.

In recognition of the theme, guest speaker Karen Hughes, Head of Technical Service at OGL Computing, was also invited to give an inspiring and encouraging speech to guests and students.

Speaking about the awards ceremony and students’ success Kelvin Nash, Vice Principal, said:

"We are extremely proud of each and every one of our learners and the developments they have made during their studies. These awards recognise the impact students have made on their peers, teaching staff and the College as a whole and it’s fantastic that we have the opportunity to recognise their achievements."
