Gossip over star’s death goes too far

I PRETTY much love newspapers.

I love the news, the comment and the gossip. Everything. And the real beauty is every day it starts all over again.

Even so, I can’t be doing with their current Whitney frenzy.

First we had the news that she had died.

That’s definitely news, definitely of interest. Then there was more.

There were background details of her life, her career, even her childhood.

Again, pretty much par for the course I’d say.

Then it all went a bit weird.

There was a picture of the bath in which she died – still filled with the water she was apparently found lying under.

Bit strange.

Especially as a picture of a bath with a hair bobble floating in it is not particularly poignant, whichever way you look at it.

Then there was all the rest. It was the drink. It was the drugs.

It was Bobby Brown’s fault. It wasn’t Bobby Brown’s fault.

Maybe it was the doctor’s fault? Or was it because she was a secret lesbian? Or maybe she wasn’t a lesbian after all. Maybe it was just the drink.

And then it got even stranger than that.

Apparently she had foreseen it. She had sung a gospel song and talked about Jesus. So that meant she knew her time was coming to an end.

Excuse me for getting all American on you but… enough already.

I’d say just wait for the toxicology results but let’s face it we all know the score. She was a big star who went off the rails and has died before her time.

I doubt the test results will hold any real shocks.

Mind you, you never know. A woman who was said to have been killed by her dog recently turned out to have died from natural causes. The dog was innocent.

In any case, we will know the cause of death soon enough.

What we won’t ever truly know is why she died.

She was the only one who knew why she followed the path she did. Maybe even she didn’t really know.

So speculation is pretty futile.

You can’t blame the newspapers though. It is not the media who create interest in stories like this. It is us.

Other people – and the way they act – intrigue us.

Fair enough. But we’ve heard every possible theory now.

Let’s give it a rest.
