A RIDING school in Worcester has become part of a nationwide movement to get people exercising more.

The Worcester Riding School is partners with the national Change4life government initiative, and is launching a new project called horseriding4life.

The scheme aims to encourage families to try horse riding for a fee of £5.

It is hoped that the cheap price will encourage more people to give the activity a go.

Deni Harper-Adams, proprietor of Worcester Riding School at Clifton, Severn Stoke, near Worcester, said the cheap price meant the whole family could take part in a taster horse riding session.

She said: “These sessions will either be in the indoor riding area or, subject to good weather, a lovely hack around the village.

“When I heard about this last year, I was very keen for Worcester Riding School to be part of the initiative.

“Horse riding can sometimes be classed as an elite sport for only the fit, but by breaking down the barriers and offering the taster sessions the whole family can get involved.

“The taster sessions aren’t as long as the regular lessons, so those who are less fit can still benefit from them.

“We are also an RDA centre, so those less able are also being actively encouraged to take part. For those who are a little bit apprehensive about actually getting on a pony, Mischief, the Shetland, and Jakey, the Welsh mountain pony, will be on hand for cuddles and carrots.”

Worcester Riding School is a fully licensed and insured riding school.

It is also a national pony club centre and a Riding For the Disabled accredited riding school.

The sessions are being held on certain Sunday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm in July, August and September.
