Our annual day in the saddle was a fantastic success

FINE weather and a range of classes to suit all ages ensured a huge turnout for Worcester and District Riding Club’s annual open show.

This year the popular equestrian event was held in conjunction with the Croome Pony Club and raised a record amount of money to boost club funds.

Riders from Worcestershire, Herefordshire and beyond met at the Park Hall Farm showground in Hanbury, near Droitwich, and every class was a qualifier for the Midland Association of Riding Clubs championships.

Thanks to generous sponsors there were ring championships with trophies and sashes and rosettes were presented up to sixth place.

The event was a fantastic success.

Alison Parkinson, vice chairman of Worcester and District Riding Club, said: “Last year the wet weather put a dampener on things but this year we kept entry prices at the 2008 level because we know that everyone is feeling the pinch.

“This is the second year we have opened the show up to juniors and lots of people prefer the format because it is a good, old-fashioned event that is multi-disciplinary and multi-age.”

The most popular classes were the show jumping, showing and mountain and moorland.

Champions of the day were Millie Cooper on her horse Louis.

The pair also won best riding pony, best hunter pony and junior best rider.

Jane Langdon riding Joe won best working hunter championship.
