An egg-cellent day was had by all

THERE’S surely nothing better than combining the twin loves of chocolate and riding.

And that is just what 34 pony mad youngsters did at Malvern Pony Club’s Good Friday rally.

Despite the inclement weather, the riders – aged from six to 18 – enjoyed a day of instruction before cantering off on an Easter egg hunt.

Drainage works are under way in the north meadow so the Three Counties Showground let the pony club use the fields close to the main entrance – which even had a few hills that were incorporated into the jumping courses.

District commissioner Maria Hardy and her team set up six arenas the day before the event to enable the riders to enjoy the facilities at their best.

The day included flat work which is so important in developing a rider’s position; pole work to establish a rhythm and progress towards jumping and, of course, the jumping – which was made even more fun with the hills to canter up and down.

Some of the riders swapped ponies, which is important as they work towards their B test.

The committee of the pony club and volunteers are working hard towards this year’s summer camp, with the showground hosting the juniors while the seniors are off to Hartpury College.
