IT’S just over a week before Father’s Day, so now is the time to plan that special surprise for your dad. One quick and easy way to bring a smile to his face is breakfast in bed – and your Worcestershire farmers’ market is the best place to start.

Although the English have been much derided over the years for the quality of their meals, if there’s one thing we can do well it’s breakfast – and a ‘full’ one at that.

You will find all the important ingredients you need for a first rate full English breakfast at your next farmers’ market.

Ideally, your recipe for success on a very big plate should involve the following, each cooked the way your father likes it: two sausages, two to three rashers of bacon, two large, flat mushrooms – or half a dozen button ones – one or two ripe tomatoes for grilling, one or two large free range eggs and one slice of bread, for toast.

Of course, you can choose whatever type of sausages you think he’ll prefer – you’ll find there is a wide variety of choices on numerous farmers’ market stalls.

If he likes a bit of pickle or chutney, then there are lots of options to treat dad – try the Worcestershire Country Markets or Tastebuds stalls.

You can add baked beans if you like, or swap the fried or poached eggs for a portion of scrambled, in which case you will need at least two, together with a little milk and butter.

Today’s farmers’ market is in High Street, Bromsgrove, from 9am until 5pm. Next weekend’s markets are on Saturday, June 11, from 9am until 2pm, in Abbey Road, Malvern, and on Sunday, June 12, in Angel Place, Worcester, from 9am until 3pm.
