OVER the past six years Lynn Glaze has worked tirelessly to transform a bland garden into a colourful display.
Set in about one acre, the garden at Brook House at Eckington, near Pershore, has a selection of established borders, mature trees and a large pond.
Mrs Glaze has created a large cottage garden-inspired planting scheme, the colours of which are mainly pinks, purples and blues.
She said: “When we moved in it was very much shrubs – a lot of conifers and a lot of evergreen.”
“We have taken a lot of trees out and opened it up and made it more of a cottage garden.”
The jewel in the garden’s crown is a large central pond full of koi carp. It is surrounded by a rockery through which water flows in cascades.
Flower beds are full of irises, aqualega, clematis and rhododendrons.
There are also well established cherry, birch and eucalyptus trees.
“We are still very much a working progress,” said Mrs Glaze.
“The front garden is mainly trees with a small shrubbery border around the edge.”
The garden, in Manor Road, is open as part of the National Gardens Scheme on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, from 11am to 5pm. Teas, cakes and plants will be sold throughout the day to raise money for Worcester and District Cats Protection.
The Croft at Upper End in Eckington is a formal garden and is also open over the same weekend. Entrance to both gardens is £3.50 for adults.
