Discover a Victorian paradise outside city

ONLY three miles east of Worcester lies one of Britain’s best kept secrets. Virtually hidden from the road and surrounded by countryside is the 30-acre Victorian paradise of Spetchley Park.

It has been lovingly created by successive generations of the Berkeley family and boasts an enviable collection of plant treasures from every corner of the globe.

It is a garden of contrasts, including a magnolia-fringed horse pool, a melon yard with olives and pineapple-scented flowers, formal clipped hedges, rose beds and sweeping lawns.

Walls are covered with climbing plants and winding paths lead you to different themed gardens. There are unexpected vistas framed by borrowed landscape, far-reaching views of the Malvern Hills, and a surprise around every corner.

This oasis of calm is a garden where you can unwind and enjoy the unspoilt views. It is a garden for quiet contemplation or a leisurely stroll, for a family picnic or an afternoon tea with friends.

A purpose-build children’s play area is also available for the younger members of the family. The garden is open tomorrow from 11am to 5.30pm.

Spetchley Park, Spetchley, Worcester, WR5 1RS. 01453 810303. hb@spetch leygardens.co.uk. Admission £6 adults, £5.50 for concessions and children free.

Open Sunday between 11am and 5.30pm.
