YOU’LL no doubt be thrilled to hear I’ve got next week off work.

But while the prospect of being able to roll over and go back to sleep when I’d normally be getting up for work is an extremely appealing prospect, I find myself wondering what exactly I’m going to do with myself.

Unlike those super-organised people who meticulously plan their holidays months or even years in advance, I have absolutely nothing planned.

Really the only reason I’ve taken the week off at all is to make sure I use up all my holiday allowance before the end of the year.

It’s the same story every year.

With the exception of two weeks in September around my birthday – put it in your diaries, folks – I rarely feel any great reason to take time off work.

So I’m left with taking the odd week here and there and completely forgetting about it until I spot it in my diary a week or so before.

Not to say I don’t value my time off – the chance to recharge the batteries is invaluable.

But the idea of spending an entire week on my bum watching DVD box sets isn’t terribly appealing.

But, unfortunately, for one reason or another I can’t afford an exotic getaway – boo hoo, poor me – so an actual holiday is out of the question.

Likewise, while I’ll hopefully be able to go and visit a few friends around the country, even that’s becoming prohibitively expensive as most of them have squeezed out a child or two so sleeping on a sofa is out of the question and I have to fork out for a hotel or B&B.

And of course there’s the problem that, while I’ve got the week off, everyone else I know will be at work during the week, so aren’t going to have a lot of time for little old me.

So what exactly am I going to do with myself ?

Going out for a few walks is the usual course of action, although we’ll have to see what the weather does to see if that’s going to be an option.

Apart from that, is there much else to do on a pretty restricted budget?

I don’t really want it to get to Sunday evening and realise I’ve done nothing worthwhile withan entire week.

Any ideas?
