PROBABLY half way through their second mouthful of toasted frog, the four business professionals from Worcestershire might think they'd have been better off on a 500 mile bike ride.

Too late then though for Rebecca Widdowson, Matt Nicol, Richard Lane and Matthew Dutton, who will be deep into the Bear Grylls 24 hr Survival Challenge on the Brecon Beacons. The quartet have cajoled three colleagues from each of their respective firms – Hallmark Hulme solicitors, Nicol & Co estate agents, IT support company EBC Group and engineering recruitment specialists Lawson Keys – to join them and take part in the adventure next May to raise more than £10,000 for Midlands Air Ambulance.

Miss Widdowson said: "We are going to be doing some amazing things including dynamic river crossing, water fall jumping, building shelters, catching our own food etc and a gross eat challenge as per ‘I’m a Celebrity’. Personally I would have preferred a long cycle challenge, but everyone else was very keen so we opted for Bear Grylls. I have been doing some challenges lately so decided to make 2017 more interesting by inviting the other businesses to get involved in another one. I thought having other teams involved would add a competitive edge to the fundraising.

"EBC had already chosen its charity, which is Midlands Air Ambulance and the other businesses were happy to support them. I then approached MAA to see what we could do as a ‘joined-up’ group to raise money and MAA suggested Bear Grylls. I think we may live to regret it. I reckon we might need some practice lighting fires and building shelters, otherwise we are going to be cold and hungry.

"I am really pleased to be supporting the air ambulance, but have to confess to being slightly nervous about the waterfall jumping and gross eat challenge. But I am looking forward to the challenges, which will take me well out of my comfort zone. I am hoping our combined effort and the competitive spirit between the business teams will mean we smash our target of £10,500."
