Schools choose wildlife

WORCESTERSHIRE Wildlife Trust have begun their new season of school visits this week with a visit from Sytchampton Endowed First School.

18 children visited Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s Farming and Wildlife Centre at Lower Smite Farm, near Droitwich, to learn about rocks and soils, part of the Key Stage 2 syllabus.

Year 3 teacher, Laura Symonds, explained “We’ve been taking classes to Worcestershire Wildlife Trust for several years and the children always enjoy their days out. They learn so much about a variety of topics in a safe environment that we just couldn’t teach in the classroom.”

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, who work to conserve and restore Worcestershire’s wildlife and wild places, will host more than 70 school visits between now and the end of the summer term. Sessions range right across the curriculum and key stages, from Nursery and reception to ‘A’ Level.

Deborah Bull, Education Officer for the Trust, is gearing up for the season ahead and advises “Bookings are filling up and teachers should book early for their 2010 visit to avoid disappointment. We run a range of programmes from food, farming and geology to ‘A’ Level biology and geography. We’re happy to talk to teachers about how we can best fulfil their needs.”
