It’s party time and a chance to pan for gold at Twycross Zoo this Whitsun (Sunday , May 24)

Party time is here at Twycross Zoo on Sunday, May 24 we are celebrating the official opening of Kids @ Twycross, Pets @ Twycross and Little Explorers. Put on your party outfits and join in the fun, come dressed as a famous explorer like Christopher Columbus, Indiana Jones, a sailor or a pirate. Learn to juggle using diablo sticks, juggling balls, clubs, spinning plates, poi balls, dervil sticks. Try your hand at hula hooping and find out how to ride a unicycle. Join in with the story workshops where children can get involved in the show. Shake hands with the very tall stilt walker as you enter the party.

If you are a little explorer then you will relish at the chance to go “gem mining” over the Whitsun Bank Holiday, with the added excitement of the chance to strike gold. The new Twycross Zoo Gem Mine will be open throughout the Bank holiday. It offers the possibility for old and young alike to pan for up to twenty different gemstones from around the world. Little explorers will enjoy sifting the sand and identifying the sapphires, emeralds, amethysts, rubies and many more. Amongst the gems they may also find authentic hand carved arrow heads from Mexico.

During the holiday there will be an opportunity for nine lucky people, (one every day from Saturday 23rd May) to strike gold. Nine golden discs will be hidden inside random gemstone bags these will be revealed once the sandbags are released into the sluice. The water will wash away the sand to expose the treasure and/or golden disc hidden inside.

Once clean and dry these discs can then be taken to the reception area of the Zoo to be exchanged for an annual Gold Zoo Membership pass. This fantastic golden pass allows the bearer unlimited visits to Twycross Zoo and nine other Zoos across the country.
