Charlie has this little sister Lola. She is practising the egg-and-spoon reace for Sports Day.

Lola says, "It's too hard, Charlie. I'm never going to get the egg to stay on my spoon."

But Charlie says, "You will Lola! You just have to concentrate!"

Just like the TV series, Charlie and Lola books are sweet, funny, beautifully designed and perfectly observed. In this one, Lola has to find her forte for the school sports day. After dismissing running and jumping because her “legs are quite short”, and disastrous attempts at the three-legged race and the ‘octopus’ race, she decides the egg-and-spoon is the one for her, because “I love eggs and I love spoons”. She vows to concentrate to keep the egg on the spoon – and manages not to drop it once. Unfortunately, she comes last in the face. However, as she still gets a prize, everyone is happy – not least the readers of this book, which will delight youngsters and their parents time and time again.
