CHILDREN in Herefordshire are being encouraged to read six books this summer.
Herefordshire Council’s libraries have launched their 12th annual summer reading challenge under the theme Space Hop – to mark last year’s 40th anniversary of the lunar landing.
Councillor Adrian Blackshaw, Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for economic development and community services, said: “The challenge is aimed at all children aged between four and 11 and our libraries will be supporting the event with themed activities.
“The scheme aims to encourage reading, literacy and visits to public libraries by making it fun to read books.
“It is free to take part in the challenge itself, where children receive prizes and stickers as rewards for reading books, and get a medal and certificate on completion of the challenge.”
The challenge starts on Monday, July 12, and runs until the beginning of September.
