A LEARN to learn award has been presented to a Worcester school.
Staff and pupils at the Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College are celebrating achieving the status, for which they have worked hard.
The school worked closely with an organisation called Accelerated Learning in Training and Education (ALITE) to deliver lessons to pupils in years seven to year nine. Due to their hard work they were given the Learn2 Journey School status.
It is one of only nine schools in the UK to hold the award.
The programme is delivered to more than 700 schools in the UK and focuses not just on what pupils learn but also how they learn it.
The Timberdine Avenue school encourages pupils to learn about themselves as learners and question what motivates them, how do they define success, where do they learn best and what is a healthy learner lifestyle.
The key attributes the school aims to develop in pupils includes learning that is resourceful, resilient, reasoning, responsible and reflective.
Greg McClarey, director of learning at the school, said: “Learning to learn is a process of discovery about learning. It involves a set of attributes and skills which, if understood and used, help learners learn more effectively and so become learners for life. At the heart is the belief that learning is learnable.
“Wherever you go in our college you will see and hear explicit development of the skills and attributes needed to be an independent lifelong learner.”
