READING champions met pupils at a school in Worcester and chatted with them about their love of words.
Worcester Warriors Dale Rasmussen and Craig Gillies joined the city’s mayor Lucy Hodgson as well as up-and-coming Worcestershire county cricketer Josh Knappett to sit with pupils at Elgar Technology College.
Community support officer Amanda Watkins and chairman of governors Gill Hellings were also present for the event – part of World Book Day – which was aimed at emphasising the importance of reading whether it be books, magazines, newspapers, fiction and non-fiction texts.
A school spokesman said: “It was a very inspirational day for the students meeting people from many walks of life and finding out the positive effects reading has had on their life.
“After the event Dale Rasmussen said to librarian Wendy Phelps: ‘The enthusiasm for reading among you and the students is something really inspiring to see.”
