Elgar Librarians Visit the Mayor

Elgar student librarians enjoyed a visit to the Guildhall at the invitation of the Mayor Lucy Hodgson, as a result of her visit to the school library to celebrate the recent Reading Champions event. Elgar Governor and Councillor Pam Clayton accompanied the students and was able to draw on her considerable experience as a Councillor.

The Mayor was a wonderfully knowledgeable host and warmly welcomed the students. She shared her vast knowledge of the history of all the different Mayors, Worcester and the Guildhall. The students found the treasures and artefacts in the Mayor’s parlour fascinating and being able to handle some of them enhanced their experience. The students toured the Guildhall including the Council chamber and prison cells where they found out all about crime and the harsh punishment in years gone by.

Elgar librarian Wendy Phelps said “The students felt privileged to be personally invited by the Mayor following their enthusiastic involvement in the Reading Champions event in our library. The history of our city was brought to life through the Mayor’s friendly and engaging manner.”
