Trio of Oxbridge offers for 'splendid' students

THREE students from a Worcestershire school have received prestigious Oxbridge offers.

Robert Holman, Hannah Redgewell and Ben Carr, who attend Pershore High School, have been offered the university places at Oxford and Cambridge.

Headteacher Clive Corbett said: “Having known Robert, Hannah and Ben since they joined Pershore High School in September 2004, it has been a joy to see them develop in every sense during their time with us.

“They are splendid young people who fully deserve this success.

“Although they are academically very successful, they give so much more to the school than this.”

Ben has an offer from Downing College, Cambridge, to study engineering. He is studying chemistry, physics, maths and further maths.

Ben is currently part of a very successful engineering education scheme team that has won the regional finals and is competing in the national competition later this year.

Robert has an offer from Oriel College, Oxford, to study physics. He is studying chemistry, computing, maths, further maths and physics. Robert is keen to progress on to a PhD in physics and career in research.

Hannah has an offer from Trinity College, Cambridge, to study politics, psychology and sociology (PPS). She is studying chemistry, history, maths and religious studies.

In addition, she is tackling an extended project qualification on the political situation in Iran with particular reference to the nuclear issue.

With her remaining energies, Hannah is also completing the gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Head of sixth form Jason Howell said: “We are particularly proud of these three students, who look set to study at two of the world’s leading universities.

“About 115 students in the sixth form have applied to university this year and the vast majority have already received offers.

“Other universities making offers to our students include Sheffield, Warwick, Bath, York, Bristol, Exeter, Cardiff, Manchester, Liverpool, Reading, Birmingham and Nottingham.

All students should be congratulated and are now working hard to achieve the required grades.”
