PUPILS from a Worcester school have built their knowledge of a recent development in the city.
Taylor Wimpey Midlands welcomed a group of GCSE geography students from the Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College to its Diglis Water development in Worcester.
The students, aged 14 to 16, are studying sustainable developments and the regeneration of towns and cities as part of their course.
They chose to visit Diglis Water to see how Taylor Wimpey Midlands has transformed the land use from industrial to housing.
Sue Rees, the school’s head of humanities, said: “Seeing things in the flesh so to speak always makes the ideas come alive and enables us to see living geography, so we are grateful to the team at Diglis Water for welcoming us to the development.
“Diglis Water is an excellent local example of sustainability and regeneration, which enables us to view the theory being put into practice.
“We’ve really enjoyed seeing how Taylor Wimpey Midlands has retained a vista that is sympathetic to the city landscape and, by discussing the models, our students are able to put the changes that have taken place at the site into perspective.”
Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey, said: “Diglis Water is a hugely exciting project for the city.
“With this project we are breathing new life into an unused stretch of the Severn and creating a vibrant community from a neglected area. We are really proud of what we have achieved here and very much enjoyed the chance to show this to the pupils.”
Diglis Water, which has won an NHBC Quality Award and a Seal of Excellence award, is situated where the Birmingham and Worcester canal meets the River Severn.
