PUPILS have been soaking up some interesting science at a school’s annual Christmas lecture.
Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College in Timberdine Avenue, Battenhall, Worcester, hosted Dr Kim Stansfield and his talk on Fish, Smart-Chips and Robo- Geckos this year.
The aim was to inspire key stage 4 pupils to take up further science studies in a technology-driven world. Dr Stansfield is a leading scientist who has researched light-weight composite structures for the aerospace industry and the Ministry of Defence.
He has also created designs for the automotive and computers industry.
“Increasingly, advances in product and system technologies are fuelled by discovering the design solutions present in nature,” said Rebekah Hodson, school science leader.
“His lecture helped students understand, for example, how studying fish swimming is helping improve safety in cars.”
