A WORCESTER high school was given a science masterclass last week when a national physics roadshow rolled into town.
Pupils at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College welcomed the Ever Wondered Why? tour, part of a joint effort from the Institute of Physics and the National Science Learning Centre to encourage secondary school children to get scientific.
David Richardson, who presents and tours with the roadshow, said: “It is always encouraging to see pupils excited about physics. It was excellent to see the enthusiasm of the pupils and watching them engage with the experiments and demonstrations.
They wanted to be involved and enjoyed seeing the amazing physics of the world around us.”
Over the course of 2010, more than 20,000 students will be inspired by hands-on activities such as smoke machines and airzookas, while also learning more about the core principles of physics.
Charles Tracey, head of pre- 19 education at the Institute of Physics, said: “The roadshow has been designed to wow people. We hope it triggers the imagination of thousands of students and inspires them to take on more scientific study. We need an army of scientists to overcome the 21st century’s challenges.”
