Short story competition 2008

CONGRATULATIONS TO PUPILS FOR THEIR SUCCESS IN OUR ANNUAL SHORT STORY COMPETITION.

The competition was judged by Sally Matthews—Tenbury Town Librarian and her reading group. The pupils had to write a short story of no more than 50 words (including the title) on the theme of ‘Ghosts’. They commented that the standard was very high and they had spent an enjoyable evening reading all the entries.

The pupils were presented with their prizes at the Awards Assembly before Christmas and then they recently attended the Town Library where they were presented with prizes by the Manager of the Schools Library Service—Dawn Woods, who came to the Library especially to meet them.

The three winners—IN FULL!

1st PRIZE
‘THE HAND’

She gasps for breath.
The rucksack digs in.
The cold and the fog fight the racing sky.
Tears pour down her face.
She remembers the ones she loves,
And her heart misses a beat.
She slumps to the floor.
And a hand finds hers, and holds it……

2ND PRIZE
‘ GHOST ?’

Walking home one dark moonless night I glimpsed a
large white shape pass slowly over my head and felt
the air shiver. It turned menacingly towards me. Petrified I sprinted home.

It was already there on my gate staring at me with
sparkling silver eyes.

It said “Twit twoo”!

HIGHLY COMMENDED
‘DISTURBED SLEEP’

The phone rang, I woke.
Outside was thundering, raining
And pitch black. The caller was an
Unidentified number, I answered it.
‘Help Me’ an empty voice echoed.
Thunder crashed and lightening lit up the sky.
‘Please help me’ The voice said again.
Earth shattering thunder crashed ‘Please he………..’
