JUNIOR motorsport talent Lewis Griffiths is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his Formula One ace namesake Lewis Hamilton after achieving success on the track.
The eight-year-old from Lower Broadheath, who races in the same cadet class that former world champion Hamilton started out in, is going from strength-to-strength on the karting circuit making the rest of his competitors sit up and take notice.
Griffiths has just won the up-and-coming cadet driver trophy at Rissington Kart Club in the Cotswolds after claiming victory in four of his six races.
Even more impressive is the fact the youngster had to start each meeting at the back of the grid because he is a novice.
Griffiths also pitted his wits against 83 other drivers in the Midlands Championship, finishing 14th and becoming the only novice to make the 30-driver final.
Having only started out in the sport last year, after getting his Motor Sports Association licence, he races in the cadet class for eight to 13 year olds.
His kart, sponsored by Aquila Truck Center, is a Comer 60cc and can reach speeds of up to 55mph.
