SOCIAL work students from Russia have been shown the on-going vital work taking place at a care farm near Worcester.
The students from Perm State University were taken to Top Barn Farm at Holt Heath where Care Farming West Midlands (CFWM) hosted a visit to three care farms on the site.
The students, visiting the University of Worcester, were shown how the scheme works to help support people to achieve greater confidence, self esteem, stability and daily structure and new skills.
Roger Murray, CFWM chairman and a fellow of the University of Worcester, said: “Care farming brings together care of the land and care of people.
“People experiencing mental health or substance misuse issues, who have learning disabilities or are young people excluded from schools and society can all benefit from doing meaningful work on a care farm.
“We were delighted to be able to show the students some of the work we do here and hopefully they got a lot out of the visit.” The partnership between the University of Worcester and Perm State University in Russia was established four years ago to share knowledge and experience in the field of social work and social welfare.
During their visit the students were also taken to a children’s centre and a homeless refuge, as well as attending seminars at the university.
