Spring Weather Part 2

The Vernal Equinox will soon be here, but although around the 21st March we celebrate Official Spring, the climatic condition often is far from spring-like.

Cold blustery winds often from between west and north bring us plenty of showers some wintry, although drier, sunnier interludes also can occur, coupled with March winds which help to dry out the ground, especially if the top soil is of the light sandy type. The saying goes," March in like a lion out like a lamb ", or " in like a lamb and out like a lion ". Equinoctial Gales can also be logged at this time of year.

The transitional period from the retreating winter and the advancing spring can be very unpredictable and fickle, the weather can and often will blow cold then warm, dry then wet. Despite this ever changing early spring mixed pattern, the spring flowers and blossom still burst forth, creating a renewal of life within the gardens and countryside. Some springs arrive early, but in other years late with frost always a possibility right through until mid or late May.
