Bronze takes first place for sculptor Caro

A WELL-known Worcestershire artist has been chosen to display her work at the prestigious Birmingham Open Art Show.

Bransford-based sculptor Caro Sweet was selected to take the work, entitled Rider, to the show which runs until April. Rider is one of a series of limited edition sculptures available in bronze and bronze resin.

"I wanted to create a series of smaller sculptures exploring our dynamic relationship with our natural environment - little snapshots of our lives in motion that everyone can relate to," she said.

"This piece was inspired by the movement of fern leaves in the wind one morning.

"I grabbed my sketchbook, then I got to work in clay with the shapes and feelings the image evoked when I got to the studio and Rider was the result."

Kidderminster company Bentley Creative Chemicals has been working with the artist to help achieve the result she wanted in the new castings.

"I am a perfectionist, so I wanted high quality materials that gave the sculptures an excellent finish and was affordable for collectors," she said.

Rider can be seen in the Birmingham Open at Gas Hall, Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery until Sunday, April 29. Admission to the exhibition is free. For more information about Caro, go to www.carosweet.com
