ANOTHER Kind of Silence is a story of love, the ocean, politics and birdsong.
Following a three-week run at the Edinburgh Festival, the new play about a worldfamous environmentalist Rachel Carson is being staged at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Pump Street, Worcester, on Thursday, September 4, as part of a national tour.
It has been described as “resonant, shocking and beautiful” and tells how the scientific and poetic sides of Carson came together in her extraordinary writings, but also brought her into sharp conflict with commercial interests in 1960s America.
Her highly influential book, Silent Spring, written in 1962 and still in print, launched the current environmental movement.
In 2007 – 100 years after her birth – the Environment Agency named her as the top international environmentalist of all time.
Writer Liz Rothschild will play Carson and also give an after-show talk.
The show starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets, priced £7 or £6 for under 16s, are available now.
