Footloose - Bristol Hippodrome 2 September to Saturday 6 September

FOOTLOOSE the Musical starts with Ren McCormack, played by Stephen Webb, telling his friends that he and his Mum are moving from Chicago to a little backwoods town called Beaumont, which of course none of them have heard of.

When they arrive in Beaumont, Ren finds out from the local kids in school that the minister (Richard Grieve) has imposed some rules and regulations that meant no singing, dancing or generally having any fun. This law was decided because of an accident that happened years ago in which four young kids on their way back from a dance, die when their car goes off the bridge - one of them being the minister's son.

But Ren just can't stand still and decides to gets some of the local kids on his side and vows to change this ridiculous law, which starts by wooing the minister's daughter - not such a good idea as it's her father who is in charge of the town!

When Ariel Moore, played by Twinnie-Lee Moore (the female lead), sings 'Holding out for a Hero' and a gang of slow motion heroes from firemen to the naval officer to the builder appear the stage turns to electric. This was definitely one of the female audience's favourite scene (including mine) judging from the plenty of cheers and woo hoo's!

The stage scenery was adequate for the production from the church, petrol station, bar to the school gym. Good vocals from all and in particular Jodie Jacobs who played Rusty when she sang Let's Hear it for the Boys in the Country & Western Dance Hall. As the full cast leapt onto the stage for the final scene everyone in the theate couldn't resist sitting and got up out of their seats to join in. It was a brilliant show in all and the cast received a fully deserved standing ovation.

The show runs until Saturday 6 September so get your tickets quick for a really feel good show!
