A HOMETOWN show should be something special for local band The Misers.
The duo, who have been performing in Herefordshire and Worcestershire in various guises for a number of years, are playing their first headline gig at Worcester’s Huntingdon Hall next month (feb).
The show comes after the band supported britpop stalwarts Ocean Colour Scene, worked with respected producers Tom Oliver and Matt Butler (The Proclaimers and Paul McCartney) and released a lauded debut album.
“We were completely blown away with Huntingdon Hall when we first played there last year,” said hammond/rhodes player Adam Barry.
“We've always enjoyed going to see gigs there so to be headlining our own show is going to be very special. For atmosphere, it's probably one of the best venues we've come across and we're very proud to be playing it.”
Fronted by Herefordshire-born singer songwriter Neil Ivison, The Misers’ music rests somewhere between country-influenced English rock and Americana.
Their sound is influenced by the likes of the Rolling Stones and Creedance Clearwater Revival, and has been likened to Ryan Adams and The Band. Their debut album, Amplified Life Stories, was recorded at Rockfield Studios in the Wye Valley - where Queen recorded Bohemian Rhapsody, and they spent last year performing for fans all over the region.
“Things have been going great,” explained Barry.
“We've had a busy 2009 and 2010 looks set to be even busier. HMV in Worcester have sold out of the album twice now, and we are starting to get some good airplay too. We're being played quite a lot in the States which is great.”
