Geek Girl is a funny, entertaining, enjoyable read for young teenagers.

The book is set in England, and is about a girl called Harriet Manners. Harriet is a geek; even the Oxford English Dictionary thinks so. Then, she suddenly has the opportunity to transform herself, from geek to model. Even though this would seem like a perfect opportunity, there were some disadvantages. Not only does Harriet hate fashion, but her best friend Nat’s dream is to become a model. What should Harriet do?

My favourite character, by far, was Wilbur! He was hilarious, light-hearted and brought the book to life. His nicknames for Harriet were hysterical. I did like Nat, but the constant arguments between her and Harriet got a little tiring, and seemed to be about the same thing. Harriet’s relationship with her step-mother, Annabel, was particularly lovely. It was almost as though she was her biological mother; they seemed to connect so well. Even though Geek Girl had some flaws the general jolliness of the book disguised them.

I would rate the book 7/10. It was an easy summer read, perfect for taking on holiday. The fourth book in the series of Geek Girl is coming out in 2015, and if you enjoy the first one, I would recommend the 2nd and 3rd, Model Misfit and Picture Perfect, which are also easy and good fun.
