CASS, Max-Ernest and Yo-Yoji, members of the top-secret Terces Society, have been given a crucial mission: to track down a cursed Aztec tuning fork that has the power to recreate any flavour the user has ever tasted. But no sooner have they succeeded than Cass' mother is kidnapped by evil chef Senor Hugo, who demands that they hand the fork over.

For those foolish enough to have read “The Name of this Book is Secret” and too foolhardy to have turned away from “If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late”, the third book in the series is best avoided.

This book contains none of the following: A cursed Aztec artefact, an evil and deranged chef, a secret jungle lair inhabited by cocoa-crazed monkeys, the most dangerous chocolate ever created. I beg you to step away form the deliciously dark mystery, before the secrets within overpower you.

As the third book in the series, This Book is Not Good For You is where you'd expect the pieces of the puzzle to begin to fall into place and the overarching storyline become the predominant concern. However, this not necessarily the case here, although there is some relevance to the wider story, the majority of the novel is focused very heavily on the story at hand.

The characterisation is as strong as ever, with Yo-Yiji fully integrated with the main cast and although he is also an oddball, he acts as a refreshing change of pace from Cassandra and Max-Ernest Surprisingly it is the plot the plot, unusually for the series, that is the weak link, it drags throughout the middle and I found myself skipping quickly through pages where not much was happening at all.

Partly this was due to the narrator being less omnipresent than in the previous 2 books, but thankfully when he does interject it is usually brilliant. The silliness of his love affair with food helps keep the tone of the book light even in its darker moments and the rare occasions where he is serious help drive the story forward. For fans of the series, there are even a few choice clues as to his potential identity.

This wonderfully delicious book tells of a girl called Cass and her friends, Yo Yoji and Max-Ernest. They all belong to the Terces Society. This is a secret organization that keeps The Secret safe from people, although they do not know The Secret themselves. The Midnight Sun is an evil organization that wants to know the secret. The Midnight Sun has created a strange type of chocolate with an Aztec tuning fork and Cass has to track them down and get the fork before it’s to late…

I found this book wonderful it had me hooked for ages and I couldn’t put it down! The author really made the story interesting and put little comments and explanations at the bottom of most pages. Most series of books make no sense if you start at the 2nd or 3rd book but this made perfect sense. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will read more of the series.
