"ALL of the songs combine both music and dancing that it's hard for me to sing standing still now."

Maaike Breijman has been performing her own high-energy tribute show to Kate Bush for the last seven years.

Originally from Holland, Maaike said she first discovered the music of Kate when she was 16.

"I first started listening to Kate because people kept on comparing me to her. But it took me quite a long time to really get in to all of her music because I was doing so many other things," she said.

"But the more I got in to it the more I found I loved every aspect of her music. I love her lyrics and the way she performs. So I decided to start a tribute to her."

Teaming up with musicians from Liverpool, Maaike started to put a show together, Dreaming of Kate, which will come to Worcestershire in June.

"The show has really grown, it's fantastic. With this tour, which started at the end of February, we've been getting so many standing ovations, especially some from places you just don't get standing ovations. It's an amazing boost at the end of a night," Maaike said.

"I've tried to design the setlist so that it won't be like a current Kate Bush show. She will be focusing on much of her newer material, while I do a lot of the older classics. Sometimes I will change a song around and put my own interpretation on it after I've been playing the song for so long. I like to play some of the less well known songs too — but there's no way I can leave a song like Wuthering Heights off the setlist."

At her own concerts, Kate Bush has been encouraging people to just watch and enjoy her live shows rather than constantly filming or taking pictures.

But while Maaike says she understands why Kate would want that, she doesn't mind people filming her shows.

"I can see why people would want to do it. Some people want to keep the memory of these shows and as long as they aren't using flash photography then I don't mind. But you want people to really watch the shows and enjoy themselves."

Despite the show leaving little time for anything else, Maaike says she wants to keep the show going for a while yet.

"I want to continue with the show but this year I am recording some of my own music too.

"It's hard to fit anything else in really, apart from trying to catch up on some sleep. My backing vocalist and I had a day off the other day and we literally didn't know what to do with the free time. It's okay trying to fill a spare few hours here and there but we aren't used to having free time, so it was strange."

Dreaming of Kate will come to the Artrix in Bromsgrove on June 6. Call the Box Office on 01527 577330.
