A VENUE more used to being filled with pious contemplation and hymns will have people rockin' in the aisles later this month.

Worcester Cathedral will host Cathedral Chaos on Saturday, April 18 in a special music event.

The Del Ray Rockets, the Woo Town Hillbillies, Skewwhiff and Nigel Clarke, from Dodgy, will perform from 6.30pm until late.

The event will raise money for the Daisychain Benevolent Fund, the Teenage Cancer Trust and local children's hospital wards.

Luke Wurmli, who plays the banjo, guitar and harmonica alongside Woo Town bandmates Emmy Lou Quan, Simon Othen, Goose Goldberg and Paul Smith, said he is "looking forward" to playing in the cathedral.

"Worcester Cathedral doesn't host many events like this at all, it's quite unusual for them," he said.

"It's going to be a great experience for us all. I've always wanted to play live in the cathedral as it's such an incredible venue. Every band is excited about it.

"For Nigel, who is best known for being the lead singer and bassist with Dodgy, he's played huge festivals and gigs all around the world, but he's really looking forward to playing Worcester Cathedral.

"It's interesting to see the cathedral reaching out to a different audience with this gig, too.

"Tickets are selling really well at the moment. All of the bands are playing for free because we just really want to raise as much money as possible for these fantastic causes."

Luke said the idea for the gig came about following a chance conversation.

"I was talking to one of the Cathedral's canons one day and I said that I would love to play in the cathedral, and to my surprise she said that would be a great idea. And it's gone from there. All of the bands have local links."

Tickets to the show cost £12 in advance and can be bought directly from Rise in CrownGate or from Music City, or by going to www.wegottickets.com/event/305953. They will be £15 on the door.
