"PERFORMING is my life. If I'm not singing I'm bored."

After more than 50 years of performing, you would think most artists would be looking forward to settling down and living a much quieter life.

Motown star Martha Reeves has different ideas.

Since her first foray in to the music world in 1962, Martha says she has "lived and breathed" music and she doesn't plan on stopping now, at the age of 73.

"I'm an oldie but a goodie. Music is my hobby, my lifestyle. Every breath I take is designed around performing. It's the thing I do best. When I'm not on stage, with a band or recording music, I get bored and become idle. I don't have my family too close by, so when I'm not going to church or playing golf I'm bored without music," she said.

Martha and the Vandellas are set to headline at Nozstock festival in Bromyard this July, alongside Wu-Tang Clan, Hollie Cook and Molotov Jukebox.

Known for dozens of hits, including 'Dancing in the Street', 'Heat Wave' and 'My Baby Loves Me', Martha has sang them all countless times over the years, but she says it never gets old.

"Every performance is fresh. The songs stay fresh because they can be performed by different musicians, in a different place, in front of a different audience. Although I know the songs well, there may be some people in the audience who aren't as familiar with them, so you need to keep it interesting for them," she said.

"I am looking forward to Nozstock — I love playing festivals because people are there to have a great time and you can really hear people singing along with you in festivals. They come with brilliant atmospheres, but you still have to work. The audience is like a mirror — how they are reacting is how you are doing yourself."

In a bid to explore a completely different scene to the star-studded world she was used to, Martha served on Detroit City Council from 2005 to 2009.

"It was interesting at the time, and I performed when I could, but I was very happy to return to showbusiness. It's my life and I love it that way, and I don't plan on stopping any time soon."

Nozstock runs from July 24 to 26.
