A WORCESTER music shop will host one of its "biggest names" yet in a special gig next month.

Rise Music, in Chapel Walk, CrownGate, will see English folk/singer-songwriter Frank Turner perform in store on Tuesday, August 11 at 1pm.

However, interest in the gig was high and tickets have now sold out.

Rise manager, Tom George, said the store was lucky to get Turner.

"Frank has previously performed in the Rise stores in Cheltenham and Bristol,"he said.

"He said he would have to come and perform in Worcester to complete the set, and he has kept that promise.

"We've been working with his managers to sort out a date for him to come down and are really excited. It should be a fantastic event. To get a spot in the gig people had to pre-order his new album, Positive Songs for Negative People, and spaces sold out very quickly.

"It will be a very intimate gig. We've previously hosted gigs in the store and they've gone really well."

Initially the vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, Turner embarked upon a primarily acoustic-based solo career following the band's split in 2005.

He is becoming a familiar face in Hereford and Worcester, after he first played at the Jailhouse in Hereford in 2007 and was paid £100 and a bottle of wine.

Since then, he’s played the main stage at the Reading and Leeds festivals, toured the world supporting the likes of Green Day, The Offspring, and Flogging Molly and headlined his own arena tour including a date at the O2 in London.

When he heard the Jailhouse was expected to close at the end of the year, he was quick to mention it on his social networks and a plan was hatched to bring him back last November for one last show at the popular rock music venue.
