THE Birmingham Bach Choir will come to Malvern Priory to perform a very special Eastertide concert, JS Bach's "St John Passion".

The performance, on Saturday March 5, at 7.30pm, will feature "a full cast of soloists and chamber orchestra, conducted by Paul Spicer".

A spokesman said: "This work is considered by many to be the most sublime choral work ever.

"Bach’s St. John Passion is one of the pillars of civilisation. An opera in all but name, it reflects all the drama of the terrible events leading up to the crucifixion and to Jesus’ burial. From the anguished, discordant wailing of the oboes in the first movement to the mob shouting for Jesus’ death, from the extraordinary arias which comment on the action to the great chorales which punctuate the work, this is one of the truly great musical masterpieces of all time."

The spokesman added: "We have assembled a stellar cast of soloists. This music is in Birmingham Bach Choir’s blood. Be prepared to be shocked, moved, and sent away having undergone a transformative experience."
