THOSE who think the old tunes were the best should get themselves along to the Brockhampton Estate near Bromyard, this Sunday (August 28).

As a bank holiday treat, the rafters of the historic moated manor house will be raised with ancient music.

A spokesman said: "Visitors will have the opportunity to imagine what life was like for the lords of the manor, as the rooms are filled with the sound of unusual historic instruments.

"Richard Commander and Frank O’Neil will be performing eighteenth century sonatas and Elizabethan dance music on the bass viol and recorder in the great hall. Soak up the atmosphere and step back in time with these expert musicians who will be recreating the sounds of times past in the manor house this weekend."

Visitors can drop in between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday, (August 28) to hear the ancient music being played.

In addition, a short film showcasing the discoveries from last year’s Summer of Archaeology excavations around the manor house at Lower Brockhampton can now be viewed on the Brockhampton website and Facebook pages.

The spokesman said: "The filming for the project was carried out by young volunteers working with MediaShypp, the Hereford based housing charity, and this short film is the culmination of many months hard work.

"The film reflects the skills of the young people involved and in particular the creativity and dedication with which they carried out filming throughout the archaeological excavations."

The spokesman added: "The full length film about the excavations is being shown daily at the manor house and shares with visitors what we discovered about the early history of the estate."
