THE Astaria String Quartet will be asking an audience in Worcester if people really know what they like when it comes to music.

The Huntingdon Hall’s quartet in residence has a hunch that people often like music if it is associated with a memorable occasion.

But what about the other great tunes that hardly get a look-in?

A spokesman said: "Do you remember that magical night in 1984 when Torvill and Dean won Olympic Gold skating to Ravel’s Bolero? Or when Anton du Beke and Katie Derham danced their sultry Argentine Tango in Strictly Come Dancing?

"If you enjoyed the music that accompanied these moments come along to Like This? Like That!, and let the Astaria String Quartet play these pieces to you again, while also introducing you to less familiar, but equally brilliant music by the same composers."

The Astaria String Quartet comprises graduates from the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music, with Shulah Oliver and Kelly McCusker on violin, Kate Bickerdike on viola and Sean Gilde on cello.

The spokesman added: "Inspirational and innovative, the Astaria String Quartet continues to explore not only less well known works for string quartet, but also aspects of audience development. They have recorded their first album, Fiesta, a celebration of Spanish and Latin American music, which includes compositions by Turina, Villa-Lobos and a first recording of the Tango Ballet by Piazzolla for string quartet.

"Their busy touring schedule has seen the Astaria String Quartet performing throughout the UK, including recitals across Scotland for Enterprise Music Scotland and the Argyll and Bute Concert Tours, in Devon for Beaford Arts and in Shropshire for Arts Alive. This April, they’re back in their home city of Worcester, performing in the wonderful acoustics of Huntingdon Hall."

The concert takes place on Friday, April 28, from 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01905 611427.
