ENGLISH classical music from the last 100 years will be the theme of a concert in the Victorian parish church of St Stephen's, in Barbourne, Worcester.

And the selection will be suitably seasonal, reflected in the title, "Now is the Month of Maying".

A spokesman said: "From Elgar to Delius, from Howells to Britten and from Holst to Maxim, this is a selection to delight lovers of English music from the last 100 years. "The Elgar Chorale of Worcester, directed by Piers Maxim, the director of music at Malvern Priory, will be singing music by Elgar, including four unaccompanied part-songs; Delius's 'To be sung of a Summer Night on the Water', Holst's 'Rig Veda', Britten's 'Ballad of Little Musgrave', and two madrigals from Howells."

The spokesman added: "With harp and piano accompaniments to give additional texture to the singing of the Elgar Chorale, a wonderful evening is in store for those attending."

The concert will take place on Saturday, May 6, from 7.30pm.
