THE MUSIC of John Denver will be celebrated with a tribute show at Worcester's Swan Theatre.

On October 12, 1997 the world of country music was rocked by the death of one of its greatest writers and performers. John Denver was just 53 years old when his twin-engine plane plunged into the sea off the Californian coast.

Poignantly, one of his greatest hits was 'Leaving on a Jet Plane'; but while he is gone, John Denver is certainly not forgotten.

A spokesman said: "In the UK, his music and lyrics now live on with the country’s premier John Denver Tribute show, Wayne Denton’s Celebration of John Denver. Wayne Denton as John Denver transports the audience back to a time of innocence and fun, when Country Music filled the airwaves of every radio station around the globe."

Wayne said: “Despite being an entertainer and winning New Faces as a vocalist in my own right, it was always the music of Denver that was my first passion, and I think it’s fair to say he was a hugely influencing factor on my career."

A Celebration of John Denver consists of Wayne Denton performing as John Denver; backed by very talented musicians and enhanced with video footage throughout the performance.

The spokesman added: "This tribute show traces the early and late music of Denver including the legendary hits Country Roads, Annie’s Song, Grandma’s Feather Bed and, Leaving on a Jet Plane."

The date for the diary is Friday, May 26.
