BRITISH rock royalty Saxon and Skindred will headline the Steelhouse Festival, that unique music celebration in the mountains, which is set to celebrate its seventh anniversary, and rather loudly too.

Steelhouse, otherwise known as The Welsh International Classic Rock Festival, is on a mission to be "the UK's best value rock festival" with a family friendly feel.

A spokesman said: "Once again set on the spectacular mountain-top location on the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons near Ebbw Vale, the Steelhouse will bring the very best classic rock acts from all over the world to a unique location.

"Previous performers at The Steelhouse Festival have included Thunder, The Darkness, UFO, Europe, Y&T, Blackstar Riders, Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach, Saxon, Anvil, Michael Schenker, Doro and – Twister Sister frontman - Dee Snider.

"Saxon will once again headline the Sunday night this year, with their full ‘Eagle’ European stage production - this is the only such show they will do in the UK in Summer 2017. in fact, it’s the ‘Return of the Eagle’ to the mountain-top in Wales."

Biff Byford, Saxon’s legendary frontman, said, “It's really great to be asked back to Steelhouse Festival to headline for a second time, we’re bringing the eagle back to the mountain, so bring on the heavy metal thunder."

Saxon will be joined by co-headliners - Newport’s own - Skindred.

Promoter Mikey Evans said, "We're really honoured to announce Skindred as our Saturday headliner. Anyone who has ever seen them live will have experienced the sheer force and presence of their performance - they truly bring it. This show will have the extra potency of this being a sort of homecoming. As a Welsh Rock festival, we're truly buzzed to have a Welsh band headline the festival."

Benji Webbe from Skindred said, “We are honoured to be headlining Steelhouse Festival next year. It's one of the most exciting up and coming festivals in the UK and we can't wait to rock the mountain.

The Steelhouse is also delighted to announce that some serious sibling rivalry will be at play at the show this year, with both Rival Sons and Wayward Sons now confirmed to perform.

The spokesman added: "These boys may not play nice, but they do play loud!"

Wayward Sons frontman, Toby Jepson said of the impending show: “Fantastic to debut Wayward Sons at Steelhouse this summer; a killer way to kick off the band’s live shows. I can't wait to climb the mountain.”

Another big act will be Monster Truck.

Promoter Max Rhead said, “Monster Truck are by far and away the most requested band we’ve booked this year. We’re looking forward to welcoming these proper to our mountain top."

Steelhouse takes place on July 29 and July 30.
