LOTTE Mullan has stopped in Worcester three times in the last 10 days, because she and her band love the city’s Thai restaurants that much.

But Mullan - who admits her love of would bankrupt herself to pay for a good meal over pretty much everything else - will be stopping Worcester for more than just a meal at the Thai Gallery or Siam Smile on Sunday, October 16, when she performs at the Marr’s Bar as part of her first headline tour.

It will actually be her fourth performance in the city in recent times - she was a Cafe Nero this time last year and has gigged twice at the Marr’s Bar as a supporting act.

“The Marr’s Bar is such a nice venue,” enthused Mullan, who has family in Worcester. “Brian (Mahr) is such a good guy. His flat’s above the venue and we’re always invited to come early and have a cup of tea. You just don’t get that in London - or any other places. It really makes a difference.”

The Hollywood Tour will introduce more people to Mullan’s music ahead of her debut album Plain Jane, which is being released at the end of the month.

The ultimate dream may be to perform huge stadium, but at the moment she is happy to have the album and life on the road.

“I love touring and playing my songs,” she said. “More recently people have been checking out the videos online then getting involved and singing the words, which is great.”

The reason for them looking up Mullan could be something to do with the other small bit of news in her life: her blog, which detailed her life working in the music industry, is about to be made into a film in a deal worth $3 million.

“I’ve been trying for years with music and doing it my own way, trying to get some major funding from a major label,” she said. “The book and the film, on the other hand, just came to me when I was not looking for it.”

Not that she isn’t hugely excited for the opportunity: Mullan’s seen the first draft of the script and is happy it’s going to be kept a very “British” film, in the style of About a Boy. It wouldn’t, she points out, work as well if it was suddenly moved to America.

“I’ve never even been to America,” she pointed out.

For now, she will have to be content with Worcester where fellow Suffolk singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran performed just before his career took off.

“Really?” Mullan squealed, and you get the impression she would definitely like some of that luck to come her way.
