WOMEN wear black more on a Monday than any other day of the week, research has revealed.

According to supermarket Sainsbury clothing lineTu's survey, us women dress in darker colours early in the week to match our moods after a weekend of fun and relaxation.

And while I have recently preached about embracing colour, I confess I'm guilty of this trend too - and sometimes more on just Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

But, as I said last time, I always try to add a splash of colour with a scarf, shoes or some other accessory.

The reality for us fickle creatures is that we simply cannot get away from thinking black is the most flattering for our figures - whatever they are.

Included in the top 20 wardrobe essentials to come out of this research are black cardigans, little black dresses, skinny jeans, leather biker jacket, black leggings, black blazer and black stilettos.

All of which, I reluctantly confess again are indeed items in my wardrobe.

It's a nice thought that we all wear colour where we can, but there's nothing wrong with retreating to old comfortable staples that actually make you feel good.

So instead of fighting it, equip yourself with the must-haves which at least form a basis for your closet.

For something simple and sleek, New Look have a plain but playful long sleeved dress with a high collar complete with white lace detailing at £17.99.

Alternatively, Topshop has a flirty black lace mesh bodycon dress at £42, perfect for showing a bit of flesh and wowing on an evening out.

Black is a cheats way of getting a glamorous and versatile look suitable for both work and nights out.
