Alexander Armstrong is to host a new game show set on a tropical island.

The frequent Have I Got News For You host is to front the ITV1 series Prize Island next year, made by the creators of Total Wipeout.

In the show, four couples will compete in a series of challenges and games set in various locations across the island, amassing prizes and the chance to win a £50,000 cash prize.

The series will be co-hosted by Emma Willis, who appears on Big Brother's Bit On The Side, screened by Channel 5.

Makers of the show say the tasks will see the contestants' "skills, relationships and resourcefulness put to the test" among sand dunes, coconut palms and sweeping grasslands.

Alexander - also known for his BBC One quiz Pointless - said: "Prize Island is the kind of show every presenter dreams of - inventive, clever, funny, absolutely compelling. Oh, and set on a tropical island in the middle of the ocean. With prizes.

"I am so excited about this."

Elaine Bedell, ITV's director of entertainment, said: "Prize Island will be fantastic family fun in a stunning, paradise island setting, and promises a lot of laughs and thrills for our viewers."

The show was created by Alexander's sidekick on Pointless, Richard Osman.
