WITH summer now almost at an end, it’s time to start looking at the best fashion the high street has to offer this autumn.

As we head further into September, Worcester’s shops are already well into autumn mode.

Susan Benhamou from Fuel in Reindeer Court said greys and navy are big news for women this autumn, especially in fitted dresses which are a key look for this season.

Susan said: “Slim, fitted dresses are flattering for all shapes and already proving popular, particularly in these colours.”

Caryl Davies from House of Fraser in CrownGate Shopping Centre agrees that classic, elegant tailoring is key this season.

She said: “For women, beautifully- cut shift dresses and pencil skirts in tweeds, berry colours or vintage prints are at the heart of this season’s styling, with peplum featuring highly.

“However, if you want to stand out, animal prints like zebra and leopard are once again strong in both clothing and accessories.”

Stripes in Foregate Street are advocating ‘24/7 dresses’ – pencil dresses that can take you from day to night as a huge trend this season.

Stylist Claire Wright said: “Lace detailing and block patterns in simple shapes are a key wardrobe staple.

“To work two trends at once, go for a 24/7 dress in berry or claret.

“Wine colours in all tones are the colour of the season, and black is back as well.”

Leather is also big news this season and a leather item, particularly the leather jacket, will add instant cool to any outfit.

But when it comes to updating your look for autumn, think about hair and make-up too.

At Umberto Giannini in Pump Street, buns are big news, whether on top of the head or mid-head, ballerina style, or best of all, low slung and messy.

Ponytails are also low and messy, but low and sleek works too. For colour, turn to red and fiery tones and a fringe is a good style choice.

The trends also spreads to your nails as well.

Ki Health and Beauty in Lowesmoor are nail experts and recommend berry and plum shades with a more rounded shape nail to complement clothes trends.

For the men, it’s all about rule Britannia.

Caryl from House of Fraser said: “Blazers are key items for men this season, in fabrics like suede, velvet and tweed. Team one with a flat cap to capture the real country gent look.”

Pockets in Friar Street say heritage is the style for men to embrace this season.

In this jubilee and Olympic year, the look focuses on tweeds, sports jackets and brogues, with brands such as Mulberry and Barbour styling a traditional but cool Britannia vibe.

At Prophecy in the Cornmarket, military is top for this season, with items including camo jackets and shirts with double-breasted pockets on the chest and epaulettes on the shoulder.
